The Disney Animal Clinic

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How is the Disney Animal Clinic funded?

By generous and hard working local volunteers organising street collections, raffles, lotteries, charity shops and donations.

How can I get subsidised treatment for my pet?

Make an appointment by telephoning The Disney Animal Clinic on 01271 346734 during opening times and bring proof of State Benefit. The main benefits accepted are the Income Support Benefit, Pension Credit and Housing Benefit. If you are on Incapacity or Sever Disablement Benefit, you may also qualify on proof that your assets and other income are below a certain level.

How many pets that I own can I get treated?

Usually two in the same household.

Is veterinary treatment at the Disney Animal Clinic free?

No. The new Animal Welfare Act expects all animal owners to provide 'a duty of care' and there are stringent penalties for anyone who allows their animal to suffer unnecessarily. You will be expected to pay a heavily subsidised amount for your pet's treatment (less than you would pay at a private vets).

What happens if the treatment my pet needs cannot be given at the Disney Animal Clinic?

We will pay the balance of this bill, after you have made a contribution and we will add a percentage of the balance onto your clinic card.

The clinic has been set up to help the animals of people in financial difficulty provide the health care their pets require.

No person has an automatic right to the subsidised veterinary treatment which the clinic provides and our limited funds, which our dedicated volunteers raise, are reserved for genuine cases of hardship, where animals would otherwise suffer.

To ensure that our funds are used to the benefit of as many needy animals as possible, owners will be asked a series of personal questions, in private and will be expected to produce evidence of certain State Benefits. This registration process is carried out in strict confidence.

If we feel that you could afford to go to a private vet, that is what you will be advised, so that another animal owned by someone in more critical financial circumstances may be treated.

Remember, your pet is your responsibility and there is no 'automatic' right to use our subsidised treatment.

For example, if you have just spent a considerable sum of money on a pedigree puppy, you should have allowed for it's care and treatment in your calculations.

On the other hand, if you already own a pet and you become ill or lose your job or your circumstances change beyond your control, we may offer your pet treatment for as long as those circumstances last.

We do not provide veterinary treatment free of charge – that would relieve owners of all responsibility for their pets, which would be morally wrong.

Our first concern is for the animal and we try to encourage a caring and responsible ownership.

Once you are registered, your Benefits eligibility will be checked from time to time.
